DON'T JUDGE SERVICE CHARGES SOLELY BY THE TIME THE TECHNICIAN SPENDS IN YOUR HOME
When our professional service technician arrives at your door, many costs have already been incurred just to get him and our service truck there, ready and able to complete the job.
Consider this example. Without years of training, it would not be possible for a doctor to make a diagnosis and prescribe a remedy. Consider for a moment that this expertise is not just the product of his or her initial training, but ongoing study.
As a patient, you pay a doctor for these skills and knowledge. A doctor's fees also reflect the variety of overhead costs which exist, such as maintaining the most professional staff and adequately equipped office and facilities. Even if a doctor only spends a few minutes with you, the fees may exceed $100.00 for the office visit. This analogy holds true for any service organization. The charge for providing service in your home cannot be determined solely by the time it takes the technicians to make the repairs.
A qualified service organization's costs begin with the salaries of the professional technicians. This amount is the same whether the technicians is actually making repairs on the customer's premises, traveling to keep service appointments, or participating in training programs to sharpen his skills. The cost of doing business, or overhead, must also be figured into a firm's charges. These overhead costs can amount to substantially more than the technician's salary.
Now comes profit. A 10% net profit on the selling price, although seldom realized, would be ideal. Accordingly, if you are charged $100.00, and we are efficient enough to earn 10% of the $100.00, we earn 10 taxable dollars. Surely you will agree that this is not excessive for providing to quality services on your property and for standing behind that service 100%
In addition, just as a physician does not provide a diagnosis for free, we cannot visit your home, diagnose a problem and quote the repair cost free of charge.
Our diagnostic service charge of $39.95 plus tax helps to defray the overhead costs of the technician's visit to your home. Should you decide to have the mechanic complete the necessary work during that visit (which is possible in most cases), the diagnostic charge is waived. This charge will be made if an estimate is requested for repair work or if a service call is requested by the customer and no work can be performed because a major diagnosis is made or the customer declines service. As always, estimates for major renovations, new installations, and remodeling are free.
All things considered, the cost to a service organization such as Jack Dolan & Sons for its employee's time on the job is the same whether he works with tools or not. A service call that results only in a diagnosis and estimate for resolving the problem warrants and service charge.
Good Service Doesn't Just Happen....
Operating a dependable service business requires organization, competent management, and substantial capital investment.
When your service charge is more than you may have expected, remember... you only see the technician who visits your home.
The quality of his service depends on:
-
his knowledge and skill;
-
the necessary people who train, schedule, route, and supply him - dispatcher, customer service, warehouse clerk, accounting, senior technicians, etc.;
-
his company's sizeable investment in shop, trucks, equipment, tools, inventory, insurance (liability, property, vehicle, and worker's compensation), and other expenses.
As companies grow larger and larger, the importance of customer satisfaction is often overlooked. Not so with Jack Dolan & Sons.
